The Clayton - Bulwer Treaty was negotiated in 1850 by John M. Clayton and Sir Henry Lytton Bulwer to build the Nicaragua Canal that would connect the Pacific and the Atlantic. It was a treaty between the United States and the United Kingdom. One of the essential points of the treaty was not to obtain or maintain exclusive control of the canal. However, there were disagreements because of the United Kingdom's control of territories surrounding the Nicaragua Canal. The United States wants the canal to be open to all nations equally thus, giving birth to Hay-Pauncefote Treaty that nullified the first treaty. It was signed by US Secretary of State (to answer the question) John Hay and British Ambassador to the United States Lord Pauncefote on the 18th of November 1901.

Which of the following was a draw for indentured servants coming to the Americans?
Finger [1]

Answer:

Mostly money and promise of the American dream.

Many poor Europeans and other immigrants heard about the Americans and their lavish lives and wanted to try their luck and escape their poverty. However, they didn't have enough money to emigrate to America which is why they would become indentured servants.

This meant that they would sign a contract with their employer who would then pay for their travel expenses to America, and in turn they would have to work for them for a number of years in return for food and shelter. When the contract expired, ideally the indentured servant became free (although this didn't always happen). Their status was slightly better than that of a slave.

(Since you didn't give us any options, I can't tell you the exact answer).

kicyunya [14]

Answer:

There are many people who could exemplify the period, but a particularly important figure is Martin Luther King.

Martin Luther King is the central figurehead of the Civil Rights Movement, which was perhaps the most important social movement in American during this time. Martin Luther King was a great leader who gave a voice to the needs of African Americans, who had been subjected to all kinds of abuses from centuries before.

He gave a message of change, but always in peaceful manners. He was not a provocator, and openly called for tolerance between all people, regardless of the color of skin, or other attributes.

This is why he became such a central figure of this period.
