Cost benefit analysis or benefit cost analysis is an analysis process whereby the cost of taking a particular decision is subtracted from the total benefits to be obtained from the decision. As such alternative decisions can be weighed to find the option that has the most benefits compared to the associated costs.
In a cost-benefit analysis process, it is possible to assign dollar values to factors of the cost and benefits including intangible items such as business or store location.
