Ultimately Spain colonized Mexico, and Texas before it was accumulated by Americans was apart of Mexico so many natives stayed there even after battles were fought. In modern day society when you visit Texas you still see the effects of culturally diffusion( Tejano music, texmex, etc.) and also the Mexican community is still a prominent ethnic group in Texas.
