Understanding history is important because we know what goes on in the past and why we are now and how species and countries were created. It shows how everything lead up until your daily life. It becomes a problem in F451 because wanting absolute power, they did not let any people know what things were going on. Montag says in the book how he has heard other countries are poor but he cannot prove the fact because the government hides everything from the citizens.
