What is the meaning/theme of the short story 'Nethergrave' by Gloria Skurzynski?

The theme of Nethergrave as I see it is that you shouldn't trust everyone. For example, Jeremy entered the virtual world without any other reason besides loneliness, and so as a result he trusted his whole being to the internet. And this was, in my opinion, a huge mistake, the internet is shady, you can't truly trust anyone on the internet. Yet Jeremy jumped right into it, without a second thought. I find this, in my opinion, foolish.
