The odds in favor are 3:3 which reduces to 1:1

There are 3 ways to get what we want, which is 4, 5 or 2. There are 3 ways to get what we don't want (1,3,or 6). So we list those two values as a ratio like so 3:3, which reduces to 1:1 after you divide both parts by 3.

Here's another example. If we wanted to know the odds in favor of rolling a 5 or 6, then the answer would be 2:4 which reduces to 1:2. This is because there are 2 ways to get what we want (rolling a 5 or 6) and 4 ways to get what we don't want (rolling either 1,2,3, or 4). The number of events we favor is listed first when it comes to "odds in favor" problems.

Just find the a common denominator between the two fractions and then add across

For example on the first one i'm going to turn each fraction into an improper fraction by multiplying the whole number by the denominator then adding that number to the numerator

2 1/8 = 17/8
4 2/3 = 14/3

Then multiply the denominators together to get 24 - this is the common denominator (24)

Figuring out the numerator is more complex - figure out what number needs to be multiplied to the original denominator that makes it 24 - then multiply that to the numerator. Add the two products and the answer should be 163/24.

This could be dead wrong because the number next to the fraction could be multiplying in - in that case the answer is 35/12 and has a completely different set of steps.

Find the fifth term in the geometric
tangare [24]
We can solve this in 2 ways
Since a1 = 4
a2 = 4 * (3) = 12 i.e( a1* common ratio)
a3 = 12 * (3) = 36 i.e( a2 * common ratio)
a4 = 36 * (3) = 108 i.e( a3* common ratio)
a5 = 108 * (3) = 324 i.e(a4*common ratio)

and so on
