The Kingdom of Portugal, like many of the other European kingdoms, had long been looking for new trading routes that allowed them to avoid North Africa, the only places of that continent known being Libya and Egypt, that were under the control of the kingdoms of Venice and Florence and which were very costly. Under the leadership of Henry the Navigator, prince of Portugal and given the extensive knowledge that the Portuguese had acquired through being a seafaring nation, the Portuguese set out to find a new way towards India and competed with other nations for footholds, especially Castille. In various expeditions that began in the 1400s, and even after the death of Prince Henry the Navigator, the Portuguese reached by land and sea several territories of Africa, including lands in Senegal, Cape Verde and Sierra Leone in 1446. The Portuguese established port cities wherever their expeditions went and initiated trades of gold found in Sudan, mining and also slaves. The effect this had on African history was the discovery of its reaches beyond the northern part of the continent which had been known to Europeans since atiquity, the opening of routes for new European expeditions to take place, the discovery of unknown cultures up until that point, but also the initiation of the slavery trade, one of the darkest consequences in history.

The correct answer is by building small forts and trading post.

The Portuguese established footholds in on the African coastlines by building small forts and trading post.

After Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama reached the Cape of Good Hope and get to India to collect a ship cargo of Pepper, the Portuguese built forts and trading post in the west and east to help their ships during the long sailings. There were ports in Africa, in India, in China, and in Japan. This way, Portugal benefited more doing this than establishing permanent colonies, in its attempt to strengthen its spices trade.

What are the three steps of the path of Buddha?
Step2247 [10]

Answer:

Eightfold Path, Pali Atthangika-magga, Sanskrit Astangika-marga, in Buddhism, an early formulation of the path to enlightenment. The idea of the Eightfold Path appears in what is regarded as the first sermon of the founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha, which he delivered after his enlightenment. There he sets forth a middle way, the Eightfold Path, between the extremes of asceticism and sensual indulgence. Like the Sanskrit term Chatvari-arya-satyani, which is usually translated as Four Noble Truths, the term Astangika-marga also implies nobility and is often rendered as the “Eightfold Noble Path.” Similarly, just as what is noble about the Four Noble Truths is not the truths themselves but those who understand them, what is noble about the Eightfold Noble Path is not the path itself but those who follow it. Accordingly, Astangika-marga might be more accurately translated as the “Eightfold Path of the [spiritually] noble.” Later in the sermon, the Buddha sets forth the Four Noble Truths and identifies the fourth truth, the truth of the path, with the Eightfold Path. Each element of the path also is discussed at length in other texts.

Describe how Siddhartha Gautama became Buddha. What do Buddhists believe in? Use specific examples with elaboration.
HACTEHA [7]

There is a legend about that , Buddha was from a rich family that teach him that the world was all good and the bad do not exist. He lived 29 years of his live thinking that life was only good until he found the truth , he found that people die and have diseases ,in other words , he found that people suffer.

He was having so much information to process, so that is why he left his aristocratic and materialistic home and think about the suffer and how the world really is. He runs away from his house in the search of ilumination.

s The buddhism is similar, in a nutshell, a Buddhist want to defeat the suffer with the ilumination ( that is like a total spiritual awake) or by nirvana (reincarnation). Also in buddhism is taught that virtues and moral help in the search of a non-suffering existence.

The buddhist don´t believe in any god , they just follow lessons that buddha taught after years of searching the spiritual illumination. But there are people that they admire named bodhisattva , that are people that go significantly inside the path of Buddha.

What was the economic effect of the Great Depression on America’s farmers?
KiRa [710]
Farmers were probably the hardest hit group of people during the Great Depression. They were already having a tough time from the 1920's because during WWl, they had been making record numbers of crops that were being sent over seas, but once the war ended they ended up with a surplus which dropped the price of wheat and farmers could hardly make a living. Farmers had also bought tractors and farm equipment with an installment plan, which means they buy now and pay later. This caused many farmers to go into debt because once the depression hit they no longer could afford to pay them off. To make matters worse, unsafe farming practices, like not rotating crops, cause the top soil to blow off and huge dust storms, called the Dust Bowl occurred making life miserable for farmers and their families.
