Christopher Columbus was the first European to see and/or visit Honduras.

This visit occurred during his fourth trip to the Americas in July 1502. He first reached the island coast and then journeyed to the mainland. Upon reaching the mainland, Columbus experienced a rainstorm that was “treacherous” and named the country “Honduras” after this experience.
