Steps to solve:

x + 3/2 = 5

~Subtract 3/2 to both sides

x + 3/2 - 3/2 = 5 - 3/2

~Simplify

x = 3.5 or 3 1/2

Best of Luck!

Complete the solution of the equation. find the value of y when x = -13
tresset_1 [31]
If x = -13, just plug -13 in for x in the equation, simplify, isolate the variable, and solve.
-4x + 5y = 12
-4(-13) + 5y = 12
-4 • -13 = 52
52 + 5y = 12
12 - 52 = -40
5y = -40
-40 / 5 = -8
y = -8

So when x is -13, y is -8.

Check the solution:
-4x + 5y = 12
-4(-13) + 5(-8) = 12
52 + (-40) = 12
52 - 40 = 12
12 = 12
It works, so this is correct.

Two boxes have the same volume. one box has a base that is 222 inches by 222 inches. the other box has a base that is 444 inches
Deffense [45]
It is 4 times as tall.

Let h₁ be the height of the box with the smaller base and h₂ be the height of the box with the larger base.

The volume of the box with the smaller base is given by 2(2)(h₁).  The volume of the box with the larger base is given by 4(4)(h₂). Since they are equal:

2(2)(h₁)=4(4)(h₂)
4h₁=16h₂

Dividing both sides by 4,
4h₁/4 = 16h₂/4
h₁ = 4h₂

The height of the box with the smaller base is 4 times the height of the box with the larger base.
