These lines are among the very last ones in Shakespeare's tragedy "Romeo and Juliet". The feud between two families has caused the death of several people. In the final act of the play, the prince of Verona says, "A glooming peace this morning with it brings. The sun for sorrow will not show his head." That means even the sun is too sad to shine. The long-awaited peace between the two families has finally been achieved, but the price they paid for it was too high. Their precious offspring is now dead, quite a heavy toll to pay over rivalry. The prince goes on to say that some of the tragic things that have taken place will be pardoned, while some will be punished. He concludes by stating that there has never been a story more painful than that of Romeo and Juliet.
