A balanced budget would be beneficial. By requiring a balanced budget, both sides of a political spectrum would have to come together and work together to come up with a balanced budget that both can agree upon. It forces those in power to look ahead and budget for the year. This keeps them from unnecessary spending. It can also cause those groups lobbying for funding to reassess their plans as they would be looking for money for the next year not during the current year. Money has already been set aside and therefore cannot be arbitrarily moved from one thing to another. <span />
