The Mines Act of 1842 prohibited all females and boys under ten years old from working underground in coal mines.

The Education Act of 1870  enabled children between the ages 5 and 13 in England and Wales to attend school under the direction of the school boards

The Health Act of 1875 is a public health act implemented to combat filthy urban living conditions by requiring new residential construction to include running water and internal drainage system. This act prohibited contractors from building shoddy housing.
