The poem Silhouette by Langston Hughes focuses on racism. The poem speaks from a white man point of view to a white lady. The man explains to the woman how they hanged a black man to protect her. And implies that the life of a white woman worths more than a life of a black man. For this, Hughes uses sarcasm in many parts, such as “they’ve just hung a black man” using the word just as a meaning of “they only” like hanging someone was no big deal.
