Yes i believe that the purpose of the government is to protect  citizens because they wrote rights to protect us from things that would not be fair. I believe that the government does still do this today because we still have rights.

I believe the purpose of the government is to protect the right of the citizens. I feel like the government not only does this today, that from back then to now, they expanded the citizen's rights, like the Civil War, which was the war for the rights of the African Americans. Also, women also had been considered as not equal to a man, and women eventually got their rights too. That's why I believe the government protects our rights and still does this to this day.
