Q. Fine Floors can install 15 square yards of carpeting in 4 hours and 30 minutes. At this rate, how
creativ13 [48]

It takes 5.22 hours to install carpeting in a room

Step-by-step explanation:

At first lets find the relation between yard, feet and inch

1. 1 yard = 3 feet

2. 1 foot = 12 inches

3. 1 yard = 36 inches

Let us change all measures to inches

∵ 1 yard = 36 inches

∴ 1 yard² = (36)² inches²

-  Fine Floors can install 15 square yards of carpeting in 4 hours and

  30 minutes

∵ 15 yard² = 15 × (36)² inches²

∴ 15 yards² = 19440 inches²

∵ 1 hour = 60 minutes

∴ 30 minutes = 30/60 = 0.5 hour

∴ 4 hours and 30 minutes = 4.5 hours

∴ Fine Floors can install 19440 inches² in 4.5 hours

∵ The dimensions of the room are 11 feet 9 inches by 13 feet 4 inches

∵ 1 foot = 12 inches

∴ 11 feet 9 inches = 11 × 12 + 9 = 141 inches

∴ 13 feet 4 inches = 13 × 12 + 4 = 160 inches

∴ The area of the room = 141 × 160 = 22560 inches²

Now lets use the ratio method to answer the question

⇒ area of carpeting (in²)      :      time of carpeting (hr)

⇒ 19440                                :      4.5

⇒ 22560                               :      h

By using cross multiplication

∴ 19440 h = 4.5 × 22560

∴ 19440 h = 101520

- Divide both sides by 19440

∴ h = 5.22 hrs

It takes 5.22 hours to install carpeting in a room

If a1 = 7 and an = An-1 – 3 then find the value of a4.
V125BC [204]

Answer:

-2

Step-by-step explanation:

If a1 = 7 and an = An-1 – 3

a4 = a3 - 3

Get a2;

a2 = a1 - 3

a2 = 7 - 3

a2 = 4

Get a3;

a3 = a2 - 3

a3 = 4 - 3

a3 = 1

GEt the required a4

a4 = a3 - 3

a4 = 1 - 3

a4  = -2

Hence the value of a4 is -2
