Generally speaking, in a society, people must have "liberty" of some kind of democracy intact if they are to act on their wills--since otherwise the government will not allow them to act in their own best interest.

honestly I think some just wanted to for some stupid reason but I think others agreed out of fear that if they didn't they would be killed or the ppl they love would be killed.
