EXPLANATION

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is a memoir and treatise that is written by a former slave and famous orator, Frederick Douglass. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is written in 1845, while he was in Lynn, Massachusetts. It is one of the most famous narratives at that time, that is written by former slaves. The memoir tells about events in Douglass’ life and is considered as the most influential pieces in the literature. The memoir triggered the movement of the abolitionist of the early 19th century.

The memoir contains two introductions that are written by well-known while abolitionists: a letter by Wendell Phillips and a preface by William Lloyd Garrison. Douglass then gained $710.96 from his supporters to free him from his legal owner.
