Explanation:

This is mostly an opinion piece, so whatever side you choose make sure to provide reasoning (this can be ethos, pathos, or logos). If your not sure what side to choose, do some research first.

Thesis

Complex sentence(s) answering all parts of the prompt briefly. Max 3 sentences. This should come AFTER background information on your topic. So in this case, provide a few details about crime, facial recognition, and public involvement/response that align with your thesis (answer to all prompt questions). As long as you answer the question in a "introduction" and list reasons in "body paragraphs", you will do great!

What are ethos, pathos, and logos?

The three artistic proofs!

LOGOS - appeal to logic and reasoning

Evokes a rational response. Readers get a sense of, "Oh, that makes sense"

 • A FACT is something that can be proven true
 • A STATISTIC is numerical fact/data/percentages
 • CAUSE/EFFECT is the way a writer shows relationships
 • An EXAMPLE is a scenario or situation

ETHOS - appeal to ethics and morals

Helps reader to see the author as reliable, trustworthy, competent., and credible. The reader might respect the author or his/her views.

 • Expert Witness
 • Celebrity Quote (written or spoken)
 • Quote from a well-known and reliable source
 • Anything else that may suggest something is right/wrong or moral/immoral

PATHOS - appeal to emotions and psychological response

Evokes an emotional response. Persuasion by emotion.

 • Emotionally loaded language
 • Vivid descriptions
 • Emotional examples
 • Anecdotes, testimonies, or narratives about emotional experiences or events
 • Figurative language
 • Emotional tone (humor, sarcasm, disappointment, excitement, etc.)

A scientist has completed several trials to see how a new drug affects adults. Which step will best assess the validity of his e
mylen [45]

The best choice is the third option, changing the variables to determine how the drug affects children. By changing the variables, the scientist will be sure about the result he gets from the first trial.

EXPLANATION:

A scientist has completed several trials to see how a new drug affects adults. It means that he has known how a new drug affects adults. The result might be positive or negative. Furthermore, there is also a chance that the scientist gets various results from his several trials. His first trial might show a positive effect of the new drug to adults. On the other hand, the second result might show the negative result of the effect of a new drug to adults. Thus, his way of conducting several trials during his research the right step. The various results from his several trials will ensure the validity of his research.

Moreover, if the scientist wants to assess the validity of his experimental design and result, he might change the variables to determine how the drug affects children, although this step might be dangerous for the children as the subject of this research. Yet, changing the variables to determine the drug affects children will be the best way to assess his research validity, among all of the other options. By changing the variables, the scientist will get different results from his previous trials so that it will ensure that his data in his research is valid. Changing the variables can also become a comparison of his previous trials.
