The major impact of Western imperialism on Japan came when Admiral Perry "opened" Japan to trade in 1854. This action on Perry's part shocked Japan. Japan's leaders had believed that their country was superior to all others until they were shown otherwise by the technology that Perry brought to bear on them.

You could say it was what forced the government to take action to put a minimum wage and minimum pricing on goods such as corn,potatoes,etc. It also made way for the federal government to give loans out to farmers and really push to buy the surplus goods and give it to the poverty line of americans. There's a lot of things it did can you be more specific the great depression has done a lot of things good and bad in the broadest sense.
