 -Scout's real name is Jean Louise Finch, but she prefers to be called Scout.
-She talks about her brother Jem's previously broken arm.
-Her father, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer
-They live away from the farm
-Her Aunt Alexandria lives in Finch's Landing
-Calpurnia is an old black woman who is their cook
-Scout does not remember her mother well
-When Scout was six, they met Dill.
-He stays next to them during the summer, and they become friends.
-They talk about Boo Radley, their unknown neighbor.
-Boo has not been seen outside for years.
-Jem runs over and touches the house.


Chapter 2: To Kill a Mockingbird
-It's fall and Dill leaves again
-Scout's going to school for the first time
-Her teacher is Miss Caroline Fisher
-She is upset because Scout knows how to read
-Scout explains to the teacher that the student she lent money to, Walter Cunningham is poor and will not be able to pay her back, and the teacher got upset at her and slapped her hand with a ruler
-Walter has "Hookworms"
-the teacher makes Scout stand in a corner

-Jem invites Walter over for lunch after Scout starts trying to fight with him

-The teacher finds a bug in Burris' Ewell's hair
-Burris' father is an alcoholic and they are poor
-Burris only shows up for the very first day of school

-scout is walking home alone from school

-she is not sure who left them there, but jem seems sure
-dill comes back
-dill wants to act out the story of boo radley
-they pretend that they are boo stabbing his father with scissors
-the neightbors see this and tell atticus
-atticus yells at the children for doing this and takes their scissors away


Chapter 5: To Kill a MockingBird

-Jem and Dill spent time in the treehouse
-scout started seeing her neighbor, Miss Maudie
-Miss Maudie works alone in her garden a lot
-Miss Maudie likes Scout and doesn't critizize her for being herself
-Miss Maudie and scout talk about Boo's father
-She says that Boo's father believed that pleasure was sin
-She tells Scout not to believe everything that is said about Boo
-Scout and Jem want to send a note to Boo
-They want to do this by attaching a piece of paper to a fishing pole
-Scout joins their plan but Atticus soon catches them
-He again gets angry at the children for playing the Boo Radley game
-Atticus thinks everyone should be treated alike

Chapter 6: To Kill a Mockingbird

-it is dill's last night before he leaves again
-the children one to try to see boo radley another time
-it is dark out, and the children sneak over to Boo's house
-jem volunteers to climb the porch
-they see a shadow of a man that terrifies dill and jem
-the children run away, and jump over the fence
-as jem goes to jump, he gets stuck under the fence
-shotgun sounds are heard
-jem runs away without his pants
-the neighbors hear the noises and come out of the house
-boo's brother thought someone was trying to steal from him
-atticus asks jem why he doesn't have his pants on
-jem wants to go back to the radley house to get his pant
