I started for school very late that morning and was in great dread of a scolding, especially because M. Hamel had said that he w

ould question us on participles, and I did not know the first word about them. For a moment, I thought of running away and spending the day out of doors. It was so warm, so bright! The birds were chirping at the edge of the woods; and in the open field back of the sawmill the Prussian soldiers were drilling. It was all much more tempting than the rule for participles, but I had the strength to resist, and hurried off to school. When I passed the town hall there was a crowd in front of the bulletin board. r-ruslan [8.4K]

Answer:

happy dagger

timeless end

Explanation:

An Oxymoron is one of the figures of speech in which words of opposing meanings are placed beside each other. The words help in creating an effect in the meaning of the sentence. The words contradict in meaning and helps in presenting rhetorical effect in the sentences.

In the given excerpt, 'happy dagger' and 'timeless end' are the examples of oxymoron. 'Happy' is a positive term and 'dagger' is a negative term. 'Timeless' denotes the unlimited span of time while 'end' denotes the end of the time.

babunello [35]

Conclusions made on the basis of unstated or stated evidence are called "inference".

Inference is mainly using observation as well as background in order to reach a logical conclusion.

We practice inference during our everyday lives.

Example:

When you enter your office and find everything clean and in place. You conclude that the housekeeping has cleaned the room
