It was unnecessary to keep holding on, especially with how unpractical it was with England all the way overseas. A happy ruling was not possible, as the kind refused to listen to the colonists demands and was not particularly concerned with their well-being. Ultimately, the colonists wanted freedom - that is why their ancestors came to the land in the first place, anyways. And so the war began.
