I suppose one of the negative things would be the fact that there are underwater and land volcanos. 
A positive thing would be that most of them are dormant.

Irrigation has been used for thousands of years even by the earliest civilizations. Irrigation can be used to bring drinking water into a city but it is used mostly to water crops. Sadly Irrigation will eventually destroy the Lakes,Rivers, or even seas that are being irrigated from, take the Aeral Sea for example, once a beautiful sea full of water is now nearly an empty sand bed all due to extensive irrigation.
