Why do square roots have to be represented as fractional exponents?

Fractional exponents make square roots easier to simplify. For example, the square root of 1681 isn't obvious. But if you used fractional exponents and prime factorization, you would get 41.

\sqrt{1681} = 1681^{1/2} = (41^2)^{1/2}= 41^1 = 41

Let W be a point between points U and V on
Dennis_Churaev [7]
So if point W is somewhere on the line segment UV, then the equation UV = UW + WV is true.

UV = UW + WV\\(13)=(2y-9)+(y-5)\\13=2y-9+y-5\\13=(2y+y)+[(-9)+(-5)]\\13=3y-14\\27=3y\\\\y=9
