Atlanta was both the main supplier for cotton and the central rail of the Hub.

Atlanta was Georgia's rail center, which made it a vital home front.  The city also held one of the South's few rolling mills, a quartermaster's base, and many important military hospitals. Furthermore, as a key railroad hub, Atlanta converted in a significant military supply center.
