O’brien tells Wintson that he is mentally deranged. He says that Winston suffers from a defective memory and is unable to remember real events, and he persuades himself that that he remembers other events which never happened.

The main character of <em>Hamlet</em>, Shakespeare's famous tragedy, is Prince Hamlet. At the beginning of the play, Hamlet has just lost his father and is still mourning.
