Geothermal energy is only produced in the western (generally) part of the US. The Southeast and New England areas barely use geothermal energy. It all depends on how much potential a certain area has for certain forms of conducting electricity.
I believe (B) is the best option due that it mentions the reason causing natural selection with limited supplies competition increases making it more likely for the strongest individuals to survive
