Answer:

Jedediah Smith was born on January 6, 1799 in New York and it is said that he possibly died on May 27, 1831.

He was a hunter, trapper, fur trader, pioneer, author, cartographer and explorer. He explored the territories of the Rocky Mountains, the West Coast and the Southwest of the United States during the 19th century.

He was the first white man who traveled by land from the Salt Lake border, along the Colorado River, the Mojave Desert to finally reach California. He is known as a hero as he crossed through rugged areas of the territory of North America (Sierra nevada, Great Basin Desert among other) opening roads and routes that were later used by other explorers, gold diggers, and useful for the expansion of white settlers and ranchers. He survived three massacres and the attack of a grizzly bear, one of the largest species on the planet.

It is said that he always walked with his rifle and a Bible. His interesting life had a great impact on popular culture to the point that the founder of the city of Springfield in The Simpsons, Jebediah Springfield, is partially inspired by the historical figure of Jedediah Smith. It also appears in the Triology of One Night in the museum played by Owen Wilson.
