He survived three massacres and the attack of a grizzly bear, one of the largest species on the planet.
It is said that he always walked with his rifle and a Bible. His interesting life had a great impact on popular culture to the point that the founder of the city of <em>Springfield </em>in <em>The Simpsons</em>, Jebediah Springfield, is partially inspired by the historical figure of Jedediah Smith.
