Answer:

53.33% probability that one woman and one man will be chosen to be on the committee

Step-by-step explanation:

A probability is the number of desired outcomes divided by the number of total outcomes.

The order in which the members are chosen is not important, so we use the combinations formula to solve this question.

Combinations formula:

C_{n,x} is the number of different combinations of x objects from a set of n elements, given by the following formula.

C_{n,x} = \frac{n!}{x!(n-x)!}

What is the probability that one woman and one man will be chosen to be on the committee?

Desired outcomes:

One woman, from a set of 2, and one man, from a set of 4. So

D = C_{2,1}*C_{4,1} = \frac{2!}{1!1!}*\frac{4!}{1!3!} = 8

Total outcomes:

Two members from a set of 2 + 4 = 6. So

T = C_{6,2} = \frac{6!}{2!4!} = 15

Probability:

p = \frac{D}{T} = \frac{8}{15} = 0.5333

53.33% probability that one woman and one man will be chosen to be on the committee

Since this is part of a packet, there's a lot of prior knowledge you need to understand the question.
1) The angle of elevation is the angle between the horizontal and the light of sight from the object to the observer (see picture 1).

2) A lot of the units are from work done by an Indian astronomer. The line of sight (light blue in picture 1) is r = 3438 (I think you might have forgotten to finish writing the number). r, or 3438, is the distance from the earth to the sun used by Indian Astronomers.

3) The table shows units in jya(θ<span>°). Jya is a Sanskrit (ancient Indian language) word. It stands for the length of half of a chord that connects two endpoints of a circle (kinda confusing and more information than you need to know - but it's the green line in picture 2).
What's important is: </span>jya(θ°) = r*sin(θ°)

Now let's tackle the problem:
1) You know that the angle of elevation is 67.5°. Using the chart, the only important value is the second from the bottom. jya(67.5°) = 3177.

2) Remember that jya(θ°) = r*sin(θ°).
Also remember that sine of an angle is \frac{opposite}{hypotenuse}. In this problem, r, the distance from the earth to the sun, happens to be the hypotenuse of the triangle since its the longest edge.

3) Notice that you're dividing jya(θ°) (aka r*sin(θ°)) by r = 3438. That will give you sin(θ°) by itself. Then you're multiplying that sin(θ°) by 1 AU, which we are told is the actual distance of the hypotenuse/distance from earth to sun. Since sine = \frac{opposite}{hypotenuse} that gives you the apparent length of the opposite side = apparent height of the sun.

The math is a bit weird, but you're basically multiplying sine by the apparent distance 1AU to get the apparent height, instead of multiplying sine by the estimated height r = 3438. Dividing 3177 by 3438 gives you sin(67.5°). Then multiplying sin(67.5°) by the apparent hypotenuse, 1AU, gives you the apparent height. That's how I'm understanding it!

A fair die is rolled 12 times. Consider the following four possible outcomes: (i) 5 2 6 3 2 1 4 1 6 5 3 4 (ii) 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5
wolverine [178]

Answer: Hello mate!

A fair die has the possible results of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, where all have the same probability ( that is 1/6).

then when you throw the dice 12 times, all the possible arrays of 12 numbers between 1 and 6 have the same probability of showing up, that is equal to

(1/6)^12

this means that the distribution (iii) 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 (where each 6 has a 1/6 probability) has the same probabilities that  (iv) 1 5 4 3 5 1 2 4 4 6 4 5 (where each number has the same probability; 1/6) and we here are imposing order, so the first number must be a 1, which has a 1/6, the second must be a 5, which also has a 1/6; this is the same for every number (doesn't matter if they are different or equal)

then the correct answer is: with a fair die. They are all equally likely.

An airplane pilot wants to climb from an altitude of 6000 feet to 16,000 feet. If the plane climbs at an angle of 9 degrees, wit
puteri [66]
So, the pilot goes from 6,000 to 16,000 or distance up of 10,000 feet
the plane is going at a speed of 22,000 per minute, namely, dx/dt = 22,000

so. .if you look at the picture below... we can simply use tangent
keeping in mind that, as the plane moves up and up, the angle is "constant", is never changing, whilst "y" and "x" and even "r" are changing, but we're not using "r" in this case.... we know what dx/dt is, we know the angle is a constant, this matters because the derivative of a constant is just 0

so, we really just need to find dy/dt then, because whilst dx/dt is telling us how fast is moving horizontally, dy/dt is telling us how long it took to cover those 10,000 feet

thus  \bf tan(\theta)=\cfrac{y}{x}\implies tan(\theta)=yx^{-1}\implies tan(9^o)=yx^{-1}\\\\&#10;-----------------------------\\\\&#10;0=\left( \cfrac{dy}{dt}\cdot \cfrac{1}{x} \right)+\left( y\cdot -\cfrac{1}{x^2}\cdot \cfrac{dx}{dt} \right)\implies 0=\cfrac{\frac{dy}{dt}}{x}-\cfrac{y\frac{dx}{dt}}{x^2}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;

\bf \\\\\\&#10;\cfrac{y\frac{dx}{dt}}{x^2}=\cfrac{\frac{dy}{dt}}{x}\implies \cfrac{y\frac{dx}{dt}}{x}=\cfrac{dy}{dt}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;\textit{so, what's "x" when y = 10000?}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;tan(9^o)=\cfrac{10000}{x}\implies x=\cfrac{10000}{tan(9^o)}\implies x\approx 63175.5

once you find what dy/dt is... you can simply do a quick conversion for the 10,000 feet, to see how many minutes it took
