Y=mx+b is the equation of a linear function, which is what this question is asking.

since you have 2 points, you can use this equation for solve for "m", the slope

y2-y1/x2-x1

this would be 10-5/8-2 in this case, which is 5/4
you now have 5/4 as your slope
you can then take one of your points, and substitute in for the original y=mx+b equation
8 = 5/4 * 5  + b
8 = 25/4 + b                multiply the fractions together (multiply across)
32 = 25 + b     (multiply both sides by 4 to eliminate the fraction
7 = b         ( subtract 25 from both sides )

Find the height of the building to the nearest foot in the diagram below. Show work.
stira [4]

Answer:

height : 150 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

\sf \sf tan(x)= \dfrac{opposite}{adjacent}

using tan rule:

\hookrightarrow \sf tan(62)= \dfrac{b}{80}

\hookrightarrow \sf b = tan(62)*80

\hookrightarrow \sf b =150.46 \ feet

How would the expression x^2-4 be rewritten using Difference of Squares?
Anna [14]
<span>a2 – b2 = (a + b)(a – b) or (a – b)(a + b).
This is the 'Difference of Squares' formula we can use to factor the expression.

In order to use the </span><span>'Difference of Squares' formula to factor a binomial, the binomial must contain two perfect squares that are separated by a subtraction symbol.

</span><span>x^2 - 4 fits this, because x^2 and 4 are both perfect squares, and they are separated by a subtraction symbol.
All you do here to factor, is take the square root of each term.

√x^2 = x
√4 = 2

Now that we have our square roots, x and 2, we substitute these numbers into the form (a + b)(a - b).
</span>
<span>(a + b)(a - b)
(x + 2)(x - 2)

Our answer is final </span><span>(x + 2)(x - 2), which can also be written as (x - 2)(x + 2), it doesn't make a difference which order you put it in.

Anyway, Hope this helps!!
Let me know if you need help understanding anything and I'll try to explain as best I can.</span>
