It consisted of laws admitting California as a free state, creating Utah and New Mexico territories with the question of slavery to be figured out in their own state by popular sovereignty, ending the slave trade in Washington DC (important) and making it easier for southerners to capture and take back run away slaves

Ok so the colonized were tired of being forced to learn the puritan ways so they assumed they would never have freedom of religion unless they left Britain.
The Colonizers assumed that they were committing treason and wanted the colonized dead.
