The word wail can have several meanings, but all of them have to do with sounds. If you wail, you produce a high-pitched cry, because you are sad or in pain.

Onomatopoeia is a figure of speech where a word can express the sounds coming from nature. So, when you wail, you produce a particular sound, which is why this is onomatopoeia.

As a writer, I like to start my books off with a brief intro of the main character (for example

"Hi my name is _______ I am ___ years old and _______.  My life was normal  until blank."

Not exactly that way, but i just like giving the readers a chance to get to known the main character before the actual story begins.
