Frida Kahlo was a prominent Mexican painting during the 20th century. She was mainly recognized for integrating important elements of the Mexican culture in her paintings. Besides this, most of Frida Kahlo's work was autobiographical as she created mainly self-portraits and used symbols to show not only Mexican culture but also her own experiences. Indeed through her paintings, Frida Kahlo depicted her feelings, thoughts, frustrations, dreams and important moments in her life including her relationship with Diego Rivera (Frida's husband), the accident she has a teenager, and her childhood.
Realism, sometimes called naturalism, in the arts is generally the attempt to represent subject matter truthfully, without artificiality and avoiding speculative fiction and supernatural elements.
