Read the following passage. Using complete sentences, describe the setting of the story and explain how details about the charac

ter or mood helped make the setting clear. In your response, use phrases and words from the passage to support your opinion. Omnari sped toward the island, increasing the speed of her Hover-Ski so it rose a full foot above the water. There was just enough sun to power it ... sun she would have enjoyed if not for the boring scavenger hunt her ancient history teacher assigned. She slowed as she spotted her target: the broken rusty arm gripping the torch and the severed metal head in a shattered crown staring sadly out to sea. Omnari blinked to take an EyePhoto, checked her list, and headed toward the crumbled city in the distance.

The name Omnari sounds futuristic, as does a Hover-Ski, so this must be in the future. The sun powers the transportation device, so it uses smart, clean energy. "Omnari blinked to take an EyePhoto..." this shows that she can do things that modern humans cannot, probably via an implant in her brain. This passage shows that the story takes place in the future.

The setting of the story was probably in a futuristic modern city, and the omnari is going in the forest to scavenge for her ancient history. The mood of Omnari seemed to be bored and impatient. She had sped up, as if she was trying to finish her task as soon as possible. She didn't want to participate in the scavenger hunt but she had no choice. Her teacher had assigned her to do the activity. So, Omnari had started her task immediately so she can finish sooner.

And the reason you can tell the character is bored is because in the text is states "sped toward the island, increasing the speed of her Hover-Ski "

and "blinked to take an EyePhoto, checked her list, and headed toward the crumbled city in the distance."These two phrases show impatience of the character. It also says in the text "boring scavenger hunt her ancient history teacher assigned."
