Here in Brasil we have a program that involves collecting donated things like toys, clothes and non perishable goods giving the donated items to charities and every R$1000 a acre of trees is planted in the deforested parts of the Amazon
I know you mentioned ‘other than planting trees’ but the process before it is beneficial not only to the people but also the environment overall
