The founders came up with these principles through the discoveries of many philosophers. An example being that of “the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” was derived from many works including ‘The Leviathan’.

precedent: An earlier event that is regarded as an example for subsequent similar circumstances.
Supremacy Clause: A Clause in the US States Constitution that establishes federal laws as the "supreme Law of the Land".
