I believe the answer is D

Explanation:

First of all it definitely is not correct as is. This excludes answer A.

Secondly, answer B isn't right as a comma placed after said would follow with quotation marks "........." showing what was said. Since the actual wording is a general statement of what everybody said and not a direct quote then B isn't right.

The reason I exclude answer C is because of the long and drawn out sentence without some sense of a break.  The run on is so long that to read properly would suggest no hesitation in the reading.

The three aforementioned exclusions lead me to the only "logical" answer...

answer D as the correct one.
