Answer:

The speed of current is <u>5 miles per hour</u>.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

In 6 hours a boat, traveling with the current, covers 20 more mi than in 10 hours, traveling against the current.

If the speed of the boat in still water is 15 mph.

Now, to find the speed of the current.

Let the speed of current be x.

So, the speed of the boat going with current = x+15.

And, the speed of the boat going against current = 15-x.

Let the distance travelled against the current be y.

So, the distance travelled with the current = y+20.

As, the time is given with the current = 6 hours.

And, the time against the current = 10 hours.

Now, to get the distance of boat travelled with the current:

Distance=speed\times time

y+20=(x+15)\times 6

y+20=6x+90

Subtracting 20 on both sides we get:

y=6x+70

Subtracting 6x on both sides we get:

y-6x=70     .......( 1 )

Now, to get the distance of boat travelled against the current:

y=(15-x)\times 10

y=150-10x

Adding 10x on both sides we get:

y+10x=150   .......( 2 )

Now, by using elimination method we subtract equation ( 1 ) from equation ( 2 ):

y+10x-(y-6x)=150-70

y+10x-y+6x=80

16x=80

Dividing both sides by 16 we get:

x=5.

Therefore, the speed of current is 5 miles per hour.

Alona [7]

Answer:

The lower limit is  75.04

The upper  limit is  78.96

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we are told that

   The sample size is  n = 25

   The sample mean is  \=  x  =  77

    The standard deviation is  \sigma  =  5

Given that the confidence level is 95%  then the level of significance is mathematically represented as

        \alpha =  (100  - 95)\%

         \alpha = 0.05

The critical value for  \frac{\alpha }{2} obtained from the normal distribution table is

     Z_{\frac{\alpha }{2} } =  1.96

Generally the margin of error is mathematically represented as

       E =  Z_{\frac{\alpha }{2} } *  \frac{\sigma }{\sqrt{n} }

=>   E =  1.96*  \frac{5 }{\sqrt{25} }

=>    E = 1.96

The 95% confidence interval is mathematically represented as

        \= x  -E <  \mu <  \= x  +E

=>   77 -  1.96  <  \mu < 77 +  1.96

=>   75.04 <  \mu < 78.96

What is the equation of a line that is parallel to the line 2x + 5y = 10 and passes through the point (-5, 1)? Check all
Lilit [14]

Answer:

B, E

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of that line in slope intercept form is y = -2/5x + 2

The slope of a line parallel to that line will be the same as its slope, so -2/5.

To find the y-intercept of a line that passes through the point (-5, 1) with that slope, you will have to plug in the x and y values of that point into what you know of the equation of the line.

y = -2/5x + b

1 = -2/5(-5) + b

1 = 2 + b

-1 = b

From this, you can construct an equation.

y = -2/5x - 1

However, this is not an answer choice.

It cannot be A because this line does not have a slope of -1.

2x + 5y = 15

5y = -2x - 5

y = -2/5x - 1

It can be B because this line is the same as the equation we came up with.

It cannot be C because this line does not have a slope of -1 or a y-intercept of -3.

2x + 5y = -15

5y = -2x - 15

y = -2/5x - 3

It cannot be D because this line does not have a y-intercept of -3.

y - 1 = -2/5(x + 5)

y - 1 = -2/5x - 2

y = -2/5x - 1

It can be E because this equation matches the one we came up with.
