Abraham Lincoln set the date of the annual Thanksgiving celebration to be on the fourth Thursday of November. The date was set in 1863 during the Civil War.

It could have caused mixed feelings, and some upsetting, since the middle of a war isn't exactly the best period to set a holiday that intends to give thanks to our blessings.
