th, a scout working for Branch Rickey who was the club president and general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Rickey had the secret goal of signing the Negro Leagues' top players to the team. Although there was no official ban on blacks in organized baseball, previous attempts at signing black baseball players had been thwarted by league officials and rival clubs in the past, so Rickey operated undercover. Robinson drew national attention when Rickey selected him from a list of promising candidate’s and signed him. In "The Birthmark," Hawthorne develops the theme that insistence on physical perfection often leads to emotional harm. Which det
Anika [276]

The statements that correctly contribute to the theme that insistence on physical perfection often leads to emotional harm are;

  • "'Then why did you take me from my mother’s side? You cannot love what shocks you!'"
  • "Aylmer’s somber imagination was not long in rendering the birthmark a frightful object, causing him more trouble and horror than ever Georgiana’s beauty, whether of soul or sense, had given him delight."

The two statements, culled from The Birthmark by Nathaniel Hawthorne, show individuals who are troubled because of insistence on physical features. In the first sentence, the woman Georgina wonders why her husband Aylmer will marry her when the birthmark on her face shocks him. She is deeply angered by this.

In the second sentence, Aylmer is so invested in a birthmark that he feels troubled. These two experiences indicate that an insistence on physical features can cause emotional harm.

IgorLugansk [536]

The viewpoint gathered from the passage is:

Sarah’s determination to hide with her brother rather than wait for the Germans is admirable.

Explanation:

Sarah begins the passage by wondering if the brother is going to sit there and let the Germans take him away and then says that surely she would not let that happen.

This is the line that sets up the passage for what is to be narrated for the whole passage which is her plans and her determination to save her brother from sure death in the German death camps.

It is her foresight that has allowed her to understand what is going to happen and she willingly takes steps to avoid it.
