Sticking to the original movie would be great, but you would also want to add your own creativity and your changes to the movie that you thought could be better in the ORIGINAL movie. For example: a character does this, instead of doing that. You don't want to make the movie completely different from the original. as it may throw off the entire script and sound like the movie isn't based off the original.
