Sickle-cell anemia is associated with a mutation in the gene encoding the beta subunit of hemoglobin that results in a change fr

om glutamic acid to valine at position 6. All other amino acids are identical to a normal hemoglobin molecule. Based on the information above, which of the following mutations is the most likely cause of sickle-cell anemia?
a. A single base-pair substitution in the gene encoding the beta subunit.b. A single base-pair insertion in the gene encoding the beta subunitc. A single base-pair deletion in the gene encoding the beta subunit
d. A translocation of DNA from one chromosome to another

Answer:

<h2>A</h2>

Explanation:

1. Sickle cell anemia is an inherited condition, disorder (disease).

2. It is a recessive condition, in which  red blood cell  become mutated and converted to a sickle like shape, and  there aren't enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body.

3. This condition normally occur when, there is inheritance of two abnormal or mutated  copies of the β-globin gene, one allele from each parent.

4. β-globin gene makes haemoglobin.

5. Sickle cell anemia results when glutamic acid being substituted by valine  at position 6 ( in short E6V substitution).

6. So, it a  single base-pair substitution in the gene encoding the beta subunit.

Genetic codes contain____ (Select all that apply.)
Yuki888 [10]

Answer:

- complex info; detailed instructions

genetic codes contain complex information; detailed instructions

Explanation:

The genetic code is a set of rules by which information encoded in the genetic material (DNA or RNA sequences) is translated into proteins (amino acid sequences) by living cells.

-The genetic code consists of 64 triplets of nucleotides. these triplets are called codons. With three exceptions, each codon and codes for one of the 20 amino acids used in the synthesis of proteins. that produces some redundancy in the code: MuscleTech amino acids being encoded by more than one codon.

Does the thirst mechanism always underestimates fluid loss during work in the heat and after work ends?
V125BC [204]
YES.
The thirst mechanism always underestimates fluid loss during work, in the heat and after work ends. Therefore you should take frequent drinks through out the work period. If you drink 250mililitres every 15 minutes, you can replace one litre per hour. if sweat rate is higher you will find it extremely difficult to keep up with fluid needs. During prolonged periods of work in the heat, weight loss exceeds 2 percent therefore the person should rehydrate before returning to work.
