Alfred the Great was King of Wessex from 871 to c. 886 and King of the Anglo-Saxons from c. 886 to 899. He was the youngest son of King Æthelwulf of Wessex. His father died when he was young and three of Alfred's brothers, Æthelbald, Æthelberht and Æthelred, reigned in turn before him

Georgia was the only state to hold two U.S. Senate elections in 2020. The special election is being held to fill the rest of retired Sen. Johnny Isakson's (R) term.

The runoff elections will determine which party has a majority in the U.S. Senate. Democrats need to win both seats to split control of the chamber 50-50. The vice president (Democrat Kamala Harris beginning in January 2021) casts tie-breaking votes in the Senate. Republicans need to win at least one seat to maintain their majority.
