Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s farewell address to Congress on April 19, 1951. MacArthur was invited to speak to a Joint Session of Congress after he was fired by President Harry Truman for having made critical statements about Truman’s policies as it related to the Korean War. MacArthur spoke eloquently in his speech about the nobility of the American Soldier, and closed with his famous statement, “Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away.” This speech is a masterpiece of public speaking, whatever you think of Truman’s decision to fire MacArthur.

Answer:

He wanted to justify his recommendations for expanding the Korean War.

Explanation:

When Truman announces his decision to the American people, he points out that the United States wants to avoid a third world war and that General MacArthur disagrees with that policy. But the nation treats MacArthur as a hero. When MacArthur addresses Congress, he receives a standing ovation. Approval of the president drops.

He wanted to explain why he was right and Pres. Truman was wrong.

List 4 accomplishments of Pericles?
Andrew [12]

Answer:

Pericles ruled Athens around 461 to 429 BC. One of Pericles’ achievements was organising the construction of the Acropolis. He also was in charge of the manufacture of the Parthenon. Pericles led many successful military campaigns. For example the Peloponnesian war, Pericles was the one who came up with a great strategy. Becoming a prominent statesman and a general in Athens was also a great achievement of his. Pericles’ last major campaign was in 440 BC. Samos, one of Athens allies, with a fleet of its own, revolted Athens and nearly succeeded. The mission to recover Samos was very costly but it was a great success. This became an achievement that later Athenian generals measured their achievements with.
