A 150-pound person burns 6.3 calories per minute when walking at a speed of 4 miles per hour. While walking, this person eats

a snack that has 90 calories. This snack subtracts from the calories burned while walking. How long must the person walk at this speed to burn at least 200 calories?

Answer:

the person should walk at least 3.038≈3 miles  to burn 200 calories

Step-by-step explanation:

we have 2 contributions

a) reduction of calories by walking

burned calories by walking= calories burning rate * time , but time = distance travelled / velocity , then

burned calories by walking= calories burning rate * distance / velocity

b) increase in calories :  snack calories = 90 calories

then

net burned calories = burned calories by walking - increase in calories

net burned calories =  calories burning rate * distance / velocity  - snack calories

replacing values

net burned calories= 200 cal , calories burning rate=  6.3 cal/minute , velocity  = 4 miles /hour *1 hour/60 min = 0.066 miles/minute , snack calories=90 cal , distance = X

then

200 cal = 6.3 cal/min/(0.066 miles/minute) * X - 90 cal

X = (200 cal + 90 cal)* 0.066 miles/minute/6.3 cal/min = 3.038 miles

Answer:

52% and 7

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 25 squares of which 13 are shaded , then

\frac{13}{25} × 100% = 13 × 4% = 52°

(b)

1 square represents \frac{1}{25} × 100% = 1 × 4% = 4%

Then 80% = 80% ÷ 4% = 20

That is for 80% , 20 squares require to be shaded

That is 7 more than the 13 already shaded

The perimeter of a triangle is 510 feet and the sides are in the ratio of 11:16:24. Find the area of the triangle
Nutka1998 [239]

If the sides are in the ratio of 11:16:24, it means that they are all multiples of a same number x, according to these factors.

So, the shorter side is 11x feet long, the middle one is 16x feet long, and the longest side is 24x feet long.

This means that the perimeter is

11x+16x+24x = 51x feet long. But we know that this is 510 feet, so we have

51x = 510 \implies x = \cfrac{510}{51} = 10.

So, the three sides are 110, 160 and 240 feet long.

To find the area of a triangle knowing its three sides, you can use Heron's formula, which states that, if s is half the perimeter of the triangle whose sides are a,b,c, the area A is given by

A = \sqrt{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}

In our case, s = 255, a = 110, b = 160, c = 240 so the formula becomes

A = \sqrt{255(255-110)(255-160)(255-240)} = \sqrt{255(145)(95)(15)} = \sqrt{52689375} \approx 7258.74
