Answer:

The structure found in most other lymphoid organs that is missing from the tonsil that allows the presence of crypts is the capsule.

Explanation:

Options for this question are:

  • <em>Capsule .</em>
  • Lymphoid follicles .
  • Lymphocytes .
  • Germinal centers.

Palatine tonsils are a type of lymphoid tissue found inside the mouth, in relation to the pharynx, and are part of the so-called mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT), which lacks a capsule -unlike the lymph nodes- in order to perform its function.

In the tonsils we usually see some openings of relative depth, called crypts, whose function is to be the receptor of particles that enter the mouth to be recognized by the lymphatic tissue, identify the potentially harmful ones and eliminate them.

<h3>Tonsil Histology</h3>

the surface of each amygdala is covered by a <u>stratified squamous epithelium</u>, with the lymphoid tissue inside, which is made up of :

  1. <em>Connective tissue where collagen fibers and fibroblasts predominate, forming a net. </em>
  2. <em>Lymphocytes. </em>
  3. <em>Plasma cells. </em>
  4. <em>Macrophages. </em>

This specialized tissue serves as a support for a portion of the cells of the immune system to be housed and perform defense functions in the body.

<h3 /><h3>Anatomical position of the tonsils</h3>

Tonsils are in a space located in the oropharynx, right on the isthmus of the jaws, delimited by:

  1. <em>Upper constrictor muscle of the pharynx, forming the lateral wall. </em>
  2. <em>Palatoglossal muscle, in the anterior part. </em>
  3. <em>Palatopharyngeal muscle, in relation to the posterior face. </em>

These structures form a receptacle, on each side, where the tonsil is housed.
