Answer:

The answer is false uniqueness effect.

Explanation:

In this type of cognitive bias, people tend to view their qualities as unique. The effect is more visible when asked about imaginary situations. An example would be telling someone: "16 out of 20 people woudln't help a person having a seizure. What would you do?". They will possibly answer that they are different, and would immediately help.

It's interesting to notice that the false uniqueness effect is the opposite to the false consensus effect, in which people believe the majority of others share his/her ideas and opinions.

IN WHAT WAYS DID THE VILLAGE COMMON REPRESENT THE STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY FELT IN NEW ENGLAND TOWNS
Andrew [12]
When you think about this, this answer becomes apparent. Settlers that arrived on a completely new continent didn't know many people there (if any). Moreover, it was possible that they left their family behind in the Old World, leaving them completely alone in the New world where they had to fend for them selves.

The only real community to be found was on the level of a village. People had to help each other, share in times of need, as they expected the others to do the same since the conditions and times they lived in were very harsh, but also laugh in times of happiness. All of this helped to develop a very strong sense of community in these villages.
