Answer:

• She finally sees that Miss Lottie was only trying to make her dismal world  beautiful.

Explanation:

Eugenia W. Collier's short story "Marigolds" tells the story of how the narrator Elizabeth's life is in the black residential area of Maryland during the Depression. She began recollecting her memories of her childhood years, especially the thing about Miss Lottie's marigolds.

The narrator and her brother Joey along with other children used to annoy Miss Lottie and destroy her much loved marigold flowers. They would often go to her place and cut the stalks of the flowers, in the process annoying and hurting her feelings. But one moment, Lizzie admits the "loss of her innocence". She felt bad about her involvement in the destruction of Miss Lottie's flowers, admitting "<em>that moment  marked the end of innocence</em>". This maturity of Lizzie is revealed in her final understanding and realization of Miss Lottie's acts as someone "<em>who had dared to create beauty in the midst of ugliness and sterility."</em>

Exercise 1 Draw one line under the simple subject and two lines under the simple predicate of each sentence below.
gtnhenbr [62]

We is a simple subject and crept  is a simple predicate in the given sentence "Soundlessly, we crept from the van for a closer look."

<h3>What Is the Simple Subject?</h3>

We must comprehend the components of a phrase in order to comprehend what a simple subject is.

A subject and a predicate can be found in any sentence. A sentence's subject is the subject of the sentence. The portion of the sentence that has the verb is referred to as the predicate.

A noun or a noun phrase can be found in the subject, but nouns can also be found in the predicate. How then do you distinguish between them?

The subject is the noun or noun phrase that is "doing" the verb.

Let's examine a subject and predicate example. The predicate is highlighted, and the subject is in bold.

The man run to the shop.

The predicate is the word "run" and everything that comes after it. The sentence is not about predicate nouns like "shop" in this case. The subject is the man because he is the one who is running.
