Answer:

Emerson was one of the founders of Transcendentalism in America. An offshoot of the Romantic movement, Transcendentalism and its writers focused on creating a uniquely American voice in literature. Part of a movement called the New England Renaissance or the American Renaissance, Transcendentalism established the idea that American literature should have its own concerns and voice and should not simply try to emulate European literature. Instead, Emerson's writings, such as "Self-Reliance," stressed the importance of developing one's own talents and emphasized the importance of cultivating what is great in oneself. By extension, his writings emphasized the importance of developing an American literature that was not concerned with European models. Over time, as Emerson believed in the freedom of each person, he became an advocate of abolition, and he inspired others to fight against slavery.

What is the function of the gerund phrase in this sentence? walking in the deep snow made me feel as if i were on the cover of a
yuradex [85]
First, you need to know what a gerund is. It refers to a word form that looks like a verb + ing. So here, the gerund phrase is <em>walking in the deep snow. </em>Also, you need to know that gerund is practically a noun in a sentence, meaning that it can function as either a subject or an object of a sentence. Here, the correct answer is the subject.
If you are unsure, you can replace the phrase with a pronoun He, for example: He made me feel... And you will know it is a subject, because the object would be Him.

Elena-2011 [213]

Answer:

Third, fourth and fifth statements best describe a text with compare-and-contrast structure.

It contains words such as although, similarly, and yet.

It describes similarities between two or more things.

It discusses differences between two or more things.

Explanation:

Compare-and-contrast structure is used when we want to compare (finding similarities) or contrast (finding differences) two or more elements of a discussion. There are many phrases and conjunctions used for comparing and contrasting, some of these are; similarly, likewise, like, both, just as (for comparing) and but, however, in contrast, instead, although, nevertheless, yet, still, even so, neither … nor for contrasting.

First option (supporting a claim with reason is used in argumentative structure.

Second option with because, so, and therefore is used for cause-and-effect structure.
