The main way in which H. G. Wells discusses the topic of human vanity is by showing how little people of the Earth thought about other planets. He says that the world was unprepared for the attack because people were too focused on this planet, and could not believe that intelligent beings could exist outside of Earth. This shows the vanity of humans which contributed to their destruction.
